Pay extra for deluxe corner room. Worth it.
The location and history of this hotel left nothing to be desired. Luxurious hotel with friendly staff They charge you for everything - They wanted me to pay .$50 a minute for the business center! If you come to this hotel and need to do work, bring your own laptop and be prepared to pay for the internet.
Toured both museums, Went to ByWard market, hiked , watched changing of the guard, shopped, ate well.
Comfortable clean room. Friendly, helpful staff at Registration desk. Good ,prompt room food service. Friendly ,considerate room cleaning services.Clean air. Comfortable room temperature. Excellent food and service in both eating areas. Absolutely nothing. Beyond expectations.
awesome! clean and friendly. perfect location.
Magnificent hotel and piece of Canadian history. Tremendous building Although an extremely expensive proposition, rooms/some older pieces within them need to be restored or refreshed. A little old looking.
Quality everything - un beatable location having to pay for internet
Classic beautiful Hotel. Friendly Staff, especially the health club receptionist, who was great! Too old. Need refurbishing. Stained carpets, cracked ceilings, too many extension cords. Position of coffee maker hard to get to which makes making that morning cup a great hassle. Toilet we had in our bathroom was so close to the wall and door is in the way.
Beautiful hotel; comfortable room; excellent location. Will definitely return.
Great location right in the heart of Downtown Ottawa, really close to a lot of the sites. Staff is informed and professional, and the facilities (especially the pool) are world class. Loved it here.
the location is convenient, other than that the hotel doesn't offer anything special
Proximity to the downtown Parking was ackward. Had to exit the vehicle to use the exit machine. I thought the breakfast menu was overpriced.
cvonveniently located , spacious and clean rooms , very comfortable beds. Computer +internet available on premises.
The customer service was excellent and the convenience of the parking was great.
the staff was very helpful the comfort sleep beds are not comfortable - ask for a regular mattress
Quiet, friendly staff, comfortable bed and excellent value for money.
The comfort of room. Expensive parking.
Really enjoyed: excellent comfort, outstanding bed. Very friendly staff. The restaurant was not at teh level of the hotel facilities; it may have been because I only wanted a small breakfast.
clean, quiet, convenient, free internet
Loved the location. There's nothing to dislike.
location, cleanliness, location room was drafty
Excellent location for visit to Ottawa. Can walk to many places and others are close by. Short walk to Parliament buildings, Sparks street, Rideau canal, Byward Market, Bytown Museum. Staff friendly and attentive. Elegant hotel with spacious comfortable rooms. There was nothing I didn't like.
Centrally located! Friendly! Helpful! Comfortable!!! Good rates! Finally installed safes for the room!! Bar and restaurant could have been open later with entertainment? Relax in Lounge after night out!!
The location and helpfulness of staff will keep bringing us back to the Lord Elgin There is nothing to dislike. The hotel features first rate amenities within a fine old hotel that is maintained impeccably.
I liked the location and the decor of the lobby. Most of the staff are very friendly and professional. The food in the restaurant was great and well worth the price. My tv in the room did not work (no sound on the tv) It eventually got fixed, but took some time staring at the walls in the mean time. The pillows were very thin and cheap, I would highly recommend buying somm good quality pillows that are firm so guests would get a better sleep. At night I had little bites all over me, so I am not sure if I was allergic to the mattress or the laundry detergent they use. The parking service is extremely expensive and it takes a long time for the parking attendants to move all of the cars underground to get to yours, so that is not a very modern or efficient system.
The convenient location is the only redeeming thing about this hotel. For years I have wanted to stay at this hotel -- I finally had the opportunity and was sorrly disappointed by the way I was spoken to and treated by front desk staff. I asked reasonable questions and said please and thank you and was treated with "...yes but you booked this on-line". As if to say I was not worthy of decent service because I booked my room on-line at the last minute." My room was not as described when I booked and I would suggest the Hotel Management double check what On-Line Travel Services are offering on behalf of their hotel - so that people are not mis-lead and then asking your snobby Front Desk staff about what was promised and then not offered. I would have to say the price for a room is definitely not worth it. Rooms are dated and smaller than reviews and photos. The Lord Elgin did not live up to any of my expectations -- the Front Desk staff could do with better customer service training. However, BellMen/Valet staff and Housekeeping were delightful.
Very close to the canal for winter skating
The staff were very quick and efficient in both the check-in and check-out process. The elevators were dated and were slow.
Parking was expensive and it a long time to get the car. The Internet stopped before we checked out. Bathrooms could be better and are a little dirty. The blinds in the bathroom were very dirty. Bathroom should also have more towels.
Great location to walk to all Ottawa locations! Location, location, location!
Pay for parking
This hotel is in a great location. And walking distance to most attractions. Great bar, Wifi would drop out every now and again.
Good location for conferences - walking distance from convention center and shopping. Clean room and excellent staff. Room was directly above the garbage dumpsters, so very early every morning was rudely woken up by garbage trucks slamming dumpsters. I wouldn't normally mention this, but I specifically asked for a room in a quiet area. The dining option has a very limited menu and has a high cost compared to other options for the area.
Excellent buffet breakfast that claimed to have the best bread in the city. They did! Modern rooms with very comfortable beds and perfect pillows. Parking lot is very confusing and you can easily scratch your car unless very careful. It is multi-level and the hotel entrance is down 3 and to the back right. It took me 3-stays to figure this out. Gym is small but gets the job done. Get an upper floor until the renovations are completed. It will be beautiful but is noisy at the moment.
the clean up job daily is very good they are renovating...
Good service. Clean bathroom. Lobby under renovation. I made a duplicate booking and the refund process was slow and passive, and up till now I am still not sure if the refund has materialized or not. There was a fire alarm in the middle of the night during our stay, but the handling of of the emergency situation was OK and not chaotic.
The room was very spacious, with all the amenites I would have wanted. Would like to try the restaurant on my next stay. Staff was very friendly and efficient. Could not figure out how to get the mini-fridge turned on, but by the time I realized there was one, was sort of too late to come in handy. Oh yes, and the charge for in-room movie was outrageous, almost $16.00.
The staff were all extremely nice and quick to help. The room was really clean and comfortable. The shower head was cracked. We advised the reception desk, but nothing was done about it. There was also only one elevator functioning almost every morning of our stay, which made it a very long wait to get to the lobby.
Close to convention center, shopping & Byswater (Bayswater?) restaurant area. Not far from Chateau Laurier or Capital Hill. Clean rooms. Friendly staff at front desk. Cool/funky little restaurant/cafe area on the first floor, which filled up at night. Common areas bright and nicely decorated, with lots of computers for general use. Room was small but functional and clean. Gym was a little disappointing, but had treadmills eliptical and some weight machines. It was fine for a short stay, but not much more. Nearby construction makes for some unattractive views, but it's not noisy or bothersome otherwise. Overall, I was happy with my selection for the price I paid.
Pillows were terrible. Ice machine did not work. Booked a hotel with a pool and it was not available to be used.
Walking distance to Parliament Bldgs and Byward Market. Construction across the street and noise.
staff were friendly. the room was clean. Wifi worked fine. there was renovation going on and lobby floor is confused but the room was quiet.
Cleanliness, staff, location was fine since I like to walk. The pool was nice. Parking price was not listed. Cost $23/day! No mention of that in the add. Also breakfast was a straight $19/person. Too much!
The size and cleanliness of the rooms. In room coffee facilities were not renewed on a daily basis.
Friendly staff - Good location - Suite was very nice and big The parking lot was full, and they did not pay the difference for another parking.
Reservation was lost which lead to slow check-in, indifferent front desk agent, no internet in room, lousy tv, laud refrigitator, old furniture, bad ventilation
Close to everything. Good price. Room clean Nothing
Good value for your money
The staff at the hotel were excellant. I accidentally left my head phones in the room when i left and the staff were prompt and professional dealing with their return. All good
The hotel location was very ideal for us because we wanted to visit Parliament Hill, Rideau Canal and the Byward Market. All of these were within walking distance to the hotel. We were also given a good size room considering there were 6 of us, 3 adults and 3 children. It would have been nice if they had a pool.
close to most things in city poor check in service - took 45 mts to check in
We stayed here for 2 nights and it was great. The room was clean and comfortable. It was good to have a bar in the hotel too! No
its location and style expensive parking
The design and the atmosphere. Everything was fine. This is my 4th time at the same hotel, won't change it.
A little dated...forgot shampoo in room, cleaning staff were socializing when I got to room..forgot to replace many items in room.
Staff were very friendly. Room was clean and comfortable.
Glass of wine in the evening was nice. Lack of curtain or window screen. Only a blackout shade was available so either your window was open for two very close buildings to peer into or your room was dark. Also the hotel was a little worn and the carpet needed a shampoo.
The bed was firm and comfortable. The limitation in variety of food at the restaurant.
Great value for the price. Friendly staff and nice rooms. Perfect for a solo traveler. Excellent location right by Parliament. None of the dining options were very affordable, and breakfast is not included.
The design in the room. The comfy bed. The location The staff could not speak French. The room was obviously cleaned too fast the bed was poorly made and the bathroom was a bit dirty. There was a lot of dust on the furniture. There was no terrasse and no pool. There was no recycle bin in the room. The strong chemical perfume in the lobby.
The staff are very nice and helpful Some rooms are small (not all)
Staff pleasant; everyone clearly trying hard Room service took a long time and what I had was marginal quality-wise; unlit alarm clock; old TV
Great location. Loved the turn down service and the bottled water in the rooms. Slow elevator. Small rooms; made you feel like you get what you pay for. Left charger in room, had to ask three times at front desk to get a response. Twice thwy promised to call and never did and finally when I wated in the lobby for an answer, it was like they were clueless on my first two requests, and had to start explaining all over again.
The personnel was very friendly and helpful, and the hotel has somehow pleasant atmosphere. It is rather small and modernly designed hotel. Every day we got an apple, bottled water and daily newspaper. It is located about 5 minutes of walking from the Parliament Hill. We certainly recommend it. Free internet connection was available only in the lobby. However, you can pay for it if you want to use internet in the room. But this was really not such a big problem...
During my five night stay, every single staff member we encountered was extremely friendly and polite, and unbelievably helpful. I've never been to any business, hotel or otherwise, where the staff have been so good. The room had beautiful wall to wall and floor to ceiling windows. It was always very quiet. The AC worked like a charm, which was great bevause it was 30 degrees outside most days we were there. The gym and pool were nice. On Canada Day the hotel let all the guests onto the top floors, which have a 360 degree view of the city, so we could watch the fireworks. Not many complaints. There was no microwave in the room and the ice machine was located on the floor below mine. It wasn't as close to the downtown action as some of the other hotels, but it wasn't too far out of the way either.
In an age where preserving our environment is important, they kept replacing soap bars that were used once. On a side note, don't ask to settle your bill the night before for an early departure. Every excuse under the planet.
I loved being only a couple blocks from Parliament, numerous restaurants and cafes. When I arrived, they gave me the wrong room (I booked a basic room and they gave me a room with a kitchenette). When they realized they'd upgraded me and I was staying three nights, they immediately downgraded me. I had already unpacked a little, had to repack, return to the lobby (at 2 am), and get a second room. Room number 2 had a king size bed that I wish I could post pictures of. The mattress was literally V shaped, as though an elephant had slept in the middle prior to my visit. Further, it didn't have a fitted sheet - just a flat sheet that barely covered the top, exposing an offer looking, striped mattress, ew. I eventually complained and was given a third, nicer room. So, I packed my things a second time, and went up and down returning/exchanging keys. I'd note that the woman working the morning I complained was absolutely terrible. I showed her the pictures I'd taken of the bed, which I'll eventually post on yelp, and she merely played dumb. I was not happy with the comfort or service at this hotel.
Location and price Conditions
Location, staff were nice It is dated and could upgrades. Carpet was not the cleanest, but overall I would say it is just ok.
I did not hear any noise from my neighbors. I slept really well. During my checkin, the staff was somehow indifferent to me. But during the checkout, another staff at that time was very nice to me.
Good location - convenient to bus stop When asked for assistance with getting a bottle of water because I was too sick to get out of bed - I was told to drink out of the tap. Also a confectioners bar was requested but all I was offered was to go to a vending machine.
Room tatty tv didn't work moved room after much confusion would not stay again
Bus stop right out front across the street, easy to get to anywhere in the city, we were able to walk to a couple museums as well as the canal for winterlude activities. We only stayed for one night and had a very jammed packed weekend so really only checked in, left came back to sleep then checked out when we woke up in the morning. They have underground paid parking across the street but it is a free service on the weekend so that was a plus! ceiling paint was cracking, bathroom very small and outdated, as well as some apparent damages to the door (chipping paint etc). Whole floor smelled strongly of cleaning supplies (harsh not nice) and also the air was so dry we both woke up with very sore throats.
Great location and parking Its a bit old now. Rooms are out dated and smell like grandmothers house. Bathroom from the 80's and water pressure like an asthmatic smoker blowing water at you through a straw. For $200 a night you expect more.
A room for the night, close to work, pretty clean sheets came off bed easily, guests of hotel yelling until 12:00 and again later.
location was central and comes with free parking
Rooms were clean. Staff was friendly. Rooms are not sound proofed too well so you can hear the other guests
location was okay.. there was no water!!!!!
We were surprised that it was so clean, the room was larger than expected, includes a fridge and sink in room, coffee maker. Beds were comfortable. We arrived early in the morning (check-in is at 2pm) and the hotel staff let us leave our car in the parking lot while we visited Ottawa. Location is excellent! About 4 blocks from Byward market, Parliament, etc. There is a 24 hour Metro grocery store 1 block away. Located in a seedy area of town, fan/air conditioner was broken.
Location was central close to shopping and restaurants. Harassment by homeless people. Soap and supplies not renewed on an as required basis.
You don't need a car to visit the highlights of town. They have private parking There is no breakfast.
Good location They missed our room and didnt clean it. Then they didn't bring enough supplies for our visit.
The hotel was quiet eventhough it was located downtown. Within walking distance to Byward Market was an added bonus and the reason I choose the hotel.
Large room, very clean, comfortable beds, great location, free parking, good value for money.
Nothing. My internet did not work, the hotel was overall dirty, the carpet smells like mold and the bath tub was clogged.
Walking distance to Bayward Market. Newly renovated areas are very nice and modern. As of July 18, 2015, hotel was still undergoing some renovations so parts of the hotel are not yet complete. That will obviously end soon.
There is No place to park in front of the hotel legally b/c the cabs take the spots. I forgot my razor and had one sent to the room. It was quite possibly to WORST razor ever made! My face was so badly cut it was terrible that a hotel would send this to a customer. This is two days later and I am still bleeding. A cheap disposable Bic razor would have served the purpose instead of this plastic with a dull blade. I should have expected more.
Clean, comfortable room. Friendly staff. Wall paper behind bed was ugly! Shower needed a railing or something to hold on to....too easy to slip and fall.
Location, staff knowledge, design, spa/pool area All good
Convenient to downtown attractions and restaurants. trying to find a place to park the car before checking in.
on top of the events
My family and I stayed at Les Suites for nine days and I loved that the suite was equipped with everything and there was lots of storage!!!!!! I could wash and dry our clothes, cook a meal when I felt like or bring home left overs and heat it up! The rooms are very spacious and were always clean and fresh, and the staff were very discreet, not invading your privacy. They were also very courteous when you met them in the hallways and elevators. The location of the hotel is ideal, walking distance to the mall and downtown Ottawa. I felt comfortable and at home. I would definitely be staying at Les Suites on my next visit to Canada.
space and facilities, plus convenience to city centre
It's location is perfect to access shopping and tourist attractions. Parking is a plus in this downtown location. Pool, workout area was quite small.
I liked the closeness to the attractions and to the market area.Having cooking facilities is a definite asset for extended stays The pet policy of this hotel where only the premium rooms are pet free is detremental to my staying there again. With alergies and not knowing beforehand the pets may have been in the room could cause serious health risks to you custtomers,
2 bathrooms, convenience of the kitchen, fitness room and pool, taxi available The dish washer did not do a very good job cleaning the dishes (room 1509)
The front desk staff were friendly, courteous and helpful also with info about surrounding points of interest. Great overflow parking solution.
Les Suites is wonderful if you have young children. The bedroom suite allows you to put your children to bed and adults can continue to enjoy their evening. The fully equipped kitchen is fantastic, children can have their regular breakfast etc. which helps with routine. Very close to market, shopping and tourist attractions. This is our second stay at the hotel and have been very pleased both visits. Parking is a challenge. Very limited parking spots and if you drive a van or larger vehicle, may available spots are too small.
Great location and the 2 been suite was the perfect size for us and the price we paid. Service was great. It was very busy but that showed the quality of the hotel, people were there for everything: family, sports teams, young friends. We were treated well and had a good stay! Some of our cups had lipstick stains on them and the hottub (part of the reason we decided on the hotel) was out of order but that's about it.
Friendly staff, excellent bedrooms, goof overall quality
We went to the byward market and to the parliament buildings and walked along the canal. We also walked Sparks Street, shopped in the Rideau Center. Everything we did was within walking distance from the hotel. The staff were helpful. We were on the 22 floor, had amazing views.
They had over booked, so we didn't get the premium sweet that we had paid for. They made an error when checking us in giving us a room that was already occupied, adding a good 30 minutes to our wait to get into a room. Usually you can chalk that up to a good story, but we had an ice cream cake that melted while we waited. We had hoped to use that time to decorate the room for a surprise party.
The location is just perfect next to all the pubs, stores, resturants with patios, the parliament buildings etc. It is a clean hotel, staff is helpful. The hotel is a basic type of hotel nothing fancy or luxuries. If that is what you are looking for then it is okay. The indoor parking is very small and if you get there late at night you will not have a spot and you have to leave your car with your keys so they can move it once someone leaves.
The location was very convenient to the office I was visiting and to local restaurants. The area had quite a few homeless people, that did approach you when walking to and from the hotel.
Location and price Parking garage is very tight.
the location, the reception
Right next to the Byward market, nice view on the market and even Parlaiment Hill from the balcony. Nice room, helpful staff. Breakfast included was a plus, although the quality of the breakfast wasn't fabulous one can certainly manage with it. Warm breakfast (eggs, bacon, potatoes) available for 5 dollars extra. Microwave oven and reasonably sized refrigerator in the room can be useful.
I liked the wooden floors in the bedroom. They are much more hygenic than carpet. I liked the central location. A shuttle bus might be good
The staff were friendly, the location was perfect, breakfast was amazing. We will return!
Location, Breakfast, Close to Public Parking, Service Rooms a bit small, Small TV
We liked the closeness to the By Ward market and the parliment buildings.
That it had a small frig and a microwave, which allowed me to use the room as a mini-apartment The fact that the 'wake-up' system did not work. I missed breakfast three times and was late for an important meeting. (Sorry if this counts as a 'complaint' - but it may be useful for staff to check the phones on a regular basis.
This hotel is like staying at home. The staff is friendly and very able to handle our two official languages. They go out of their way to accommodate your needs. Bravo! The hot breakfast could use some work.
The room and view overlooking courtyard. And the balconybreakfast Breakfast - croissants were stale, eggs old
Beautiful spacious room, thick towels, great breakfast, friendly staff and great location. Parking was under the building and quite convenient.
Nothing stood out. Non-smoking Hotel, that STUNK like cigarettes. A cup of cigarette butts on the balcony up arrival. Nickel & dime for EVERYTHING. We could write in the dirt in the hotel room. Travel a lot, one of the worst stays ever. $--/night turned into $---!!
As I had read in a review...great comfy beds...seconded by very courteous staff. no
Spacious suite, great location, excellent breakfast, family friendly
The rooms are very spacious and I like that breakfast is included in the price of the room. Parking garage is quite tight.
This guest did not leave comments about this hotel.
Great location. Large rooms Needs some updating. Parking is located under hotel. Very tight.
Very friendly staff, including suggestions for places to eat, help with parking and just overall making us feel welcome. Pool and gym had to be accessed via lobby. Made it a tad uncomfortable to walk to pool in bathing suit passing through common area.
Liked the Bistro. Great for breakfast. Bed and room very comfortable!
We loved everything!!! it was right in the center of everything, so walking was perfect. there was nothing we didn't like.
They oversold the rooms. They did not have a room for me I had to sleep on a cot in a conference room!
Excellent bed, excellent location. It is walking distance to everything. Staff are very friendly and provide excellent service!
This was a great hotel and the staff was very accomodating. Booking.com did not effectively communicate our reservation to the hotel but it was still honored by Westin. They even upgraded our room to off-set the mix up. We liked everything. It was across from Parliment. A perfect location.
central position the filthy scum that surrounded the swimming and jakuzzi pools
Helpful staff, clean room, very comfortable, good location but a little hard to reach due to current construction. Close to Byward market, which we loved for browsing, shopping and eating. Concierge was extremely helpful with directions for getting to and around Montreal, our next stop.
An excellent welcome, and room explanation etc. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff. Food excellent and good value. Not having beauty treatments available in situ-i.e. facials.
