the staff where very nice polite and helpfull, the entertainment was good and the bar at the deck was excellent
The pool area and sun deck and very nice, and the food, especially breakfasts were superb Extremely noisy neighbours, playing load music late at night
Just returned from Hotel Hilton Malta feeling very relaxed. Hotel was great with excellent restaurants on site and within walking distance at the marina and nearby Spinola Bay,
amazing choice of breakfast! great location and nice pool area. Great being able to sit outside for a drink in the evening. towels and bed a bit hard, decor old fashioned - could have made more use of fabulous position
The executive lounge was very good for breakfast and pre dinner drinks, felt that it should have stayed open for after dinner drinks.Good location. Access to certain parts of the building required changing lifts.
the atmosphere was great and relaxing and the staff was extremely helpful and friendly the water was a bit expensive...make sure that you purchase it from the grocery next door....bottle of water in hotel cost euro 4.5
Large and quiet room, nice decor, location next to the bay. Very good Thai restaurant. Poor quality of breakfast. Pooor quality of dinner in the main restaurant. Sheets were not changed daily. Very aggressive communication such as "you mustn't touch anything in the minibar or you will be charged a fortune". The hotel blocked 400eur on my credit card for two weeks.
Scenery was pleasent but it was a little bit uphill slope to climb! The hotel. Generally if I go to malta I would prefer it again.
Staff were all v. v. friendly, location, breakfast is one of the best Hilton breakfasts I've had, pools, good offer on the spa on a rainy day. Room cleaning was not up to scratch, it was of the 'lick and a promise' variety. Bed changed only once during 7 nights' stay, @ €415 per night...Housekeeping walks straight in without knocking, which is really not on. Car park is a very strange affair with hidden lifts and level 5 inside the hotel is level 0 in the car park, utterly confusing.
A very good hotel with good facilities. Clean and accommodating staff. May be a little difficult to access sea due to sea conditions. However, 4 large swimming pools available
Excellent location, superb food/dining. Good, helpful staff. Good value for money Lousy WiFi - worst/slowest have ever experienced- used Burger Kings in hotel lobby! Did not like paying for use of minibar or safe - this was not made clear on website.
The front desk staff were always kind and helpful. They responded to my requests right away and gave me information I needed.
I liked the room, food and staff. I was made to feel very welcome no english channels on TV
The view from the hotel was impressive. We stayed on the sixth floor. And of cause the location. The breakfast buffet was extremely boring.
Its location is excellent and the view from the balcony over the harbour is spectacular. Very convenient for everything. The breakfast was large. The good thing about this hotel is its location. Smoking is allowed in the bedrooms and our room smelled of cigarette smoke. The hotel appears to be in a 60's/70's time warp and furniture and fittings reflect this. Also, although it was not cheap (Euro 100 per night) it had a very high proportion of young, backpacking guests, which was unexpected. On two of the three night we stayed there, there was no fresh fruit at breakfast.
Location, in front of Sliema Sea, it's located in a very animated street with lots of cafés and terraces. Unfortunately, almost everything. Small elevators, a bedroom with accepts (alcatifa) (which is no longer used), very few light, very bad matresses (bad for your back) with no dais (estrado), no remote control for TV, bathroom with no bidet, just a small light, no water pressure in the bath and in the washing closet, poor breakfast and everywhere we go a bad smell of fried food mixed with mold (mofo) of a building and structure that has not followed tourism evolution and minimum conditions to be given to its clients. It seems Marina Hotel has stopped in time. Not to repeat, not to return, not to advise to anyone, that's for sure.
Position in town of Sliema. Extreme friendliness of staff. Easy access to all services to visit all parts of island.
The reception staff were very helpful in terms of my questions, giving advice on how to go places around Malta. The big problem for me was Internet access: I couldn't get the wi-fi access that was advertised on the top floor of the hotel and the card system was very expensive (ie 3 euros for 75 minutes, 2 euros for 20 minutes, but was never for the full amount, always less). Moreover, the location wasn't ideal for me, as I was in Malta for work and had to go back to the capital Valletta to go anywhere. Next time I'll stay in Valletta as the surrounding district of Sliema is pretty run-down and there's not much to do, ie. no real beaches or historical sites to visit.
The room was very small, me and my cabin bagage and it was full. It seems to be a place not reformed since 80s, and it need it. Very old and cracked forniture and toilet. Breakfast options are very poor.
Leaving! Wasn't what i expected it to be for the money paid. No air con as stated it had. It was actually a heater, which wasn't a lot of use with temperatures around mid 30'sc. The room was very dirty ie. mucky walls, headboard on bed was black with dirt, torn stained matteress and furniture from the 1960's. I thought when i walked in the room i'd stepped into a cheap B & B in Blackpool. View from window was to a dirty courtyard which comprised of waste food, knives and forks, used condoms all thrown down on to the roof below and on courtyard. The breakfast offered on the B & B basis was only toast or cereal, very basic indeed. I paid extra for the hotel as it was supposedly in a good location. It was a huge dissapointment and i will never be wasting my money to go there again.
Very much, excellent value for money Staff a bit rough
Yet another slightly shabby once-grande old dame to join the ranks of the nouveaux-pauvres. Overall, reasonable value for money, though certainly not 5-star quality. Perhaps 3-4 star. Items most in need of improvement - bedroom furniture (looks like Lady Stickland's origninal inventory is still in place, and rather the worse for wear) and the main restaurant - I've seen better standards in hospital canteens !! Still, beneath the "fading drapes and peeling paint" lurks some residual old world charm, which would not require a king's ransom to restore it to a semblance of its former glory. And should this happen one day, I would recommend a different interior designer - even the renovated rooms are gaudy rather than tasteful. See above. Connie Francis and Patsy Kline blaring from the adjacent bus terminal.
A warm welcome when one arrives and a comfortable room. Excellent sevice always. Nothing
This is a grand old place to stay. Right next to the bus station & the old city of Valletta. Staff very friendly and helpful. Room clean and had a great view over the harbour. The large gardens and pool are great for relaxing. Free wifi available in the bar area. Best to avoid the food at the bistro. You can get better meals in Valletta.
Excellent localisation, confort, calm Rooms are a bit small
The combination of the old, traditional style and feeling with the beautifully refurbished facilities; very warm and helpful personnel The elevator nearest our room (4 floors up) was out of order at times. The cost of the breakfasts seemed very high
Perfect location. Very close to the bus terminal. Breakfast wasn't included.
The barman in the Club Bar, was excellent and the hotel majestic.
Amazing place, great staff, highly recommended Might be slightly noisy
Swimming pool was excellent, food was very good. Staff at the reseption: very slow and not friendly. Hotel is old and a bit wornout.
Sensitive conversion of lovely historic building Very spacious duplex room with ample space for reading, writing - feels very private - good location for a romantic escape - extensive covered balcony - great in summer Generous well-equipped bathroom Very quiet location in residential Sliema Though equipped with 2 wide-screen TVs - reception was of poor quality Awkward relationship with sister Victoria Hotel - who run the Capua - separate building - when going to bar/ dining room/ use of pool - No B&B/half- board package available - unlike Victoria - upholstered furniture needs recovering (in our room but especially in dining room)
Absolutely loved it, would definately re visit No
very clean and a good position none
The fee upgrade to a junior suite, the friendliness of the staff upon arrival The overall impression given by the hotel is not the one of a 5 stars, from the bed and furnitures of the room to the various common spaces and pools. It looks more like a 4 stars or a very good 3 stars.
Amazing property! Wonderful service and very delicious food at two hotel restaurants, I would absolutely stay here again! The staff was wonderful, some of the best service I have ever received and I travel all over the world!
A very nice sea-side restaurant Paranga. The room really smells - that wet sort of smell embeded in the old sea-side hotels. Very annoying.
Comfortable and well equipped There were problems with interent connection, lack of access to TV channels and the air conditioning started leaking in the middle of the night.
Surrounded by buildings under contruction. No view at all.
good gym facilites but it is not a 5 star hotel by international standards. room was not cleaned until 7.30 pm on one occassion and rest of stay usually after 3pm. did not replenish tea and coffee supplies had to ask ofr them each day. no hotel dressing gowns provided as stipulated in literature(telling of facilites) that was missing from room unitl 2 days before we left.
Not enough pool. DIdn't like the area it was located near.
Suitable location, our room on the 10th floor facing the internal garten was quiet with comportable temperature without using any air conditioning Cleaningness of the pool, the pool area, toiletts and showers.
Quiet at night even though in St. Julian's; View from the balcony is nice; Spacious rooms; Rooms need renovation; New towels need to be purchased as the ones available are already worn-out; Type of room whether twin or king should be clarified upon room reservation.
The staff were trying very hard to make up for the short comings from the hotel facilities. The rooms had a smell of dampness and the location of the hotel was in the busiest night spot in Malta. You would probably enjoy this if you were a teenager, however at our age it was a bit too much to bear.
Comfortable bed, excellent cuisine, friendly helpful staff
The comfort and decor of the room were first class with a great balcony for relaxing. The breakfast buffet was rather limited. There could have been more fresh fruit, proper fruit juices and coffee. I would choose a room only option in future
Close to all the action Not four star in my part of the world (2 1/2 or 3 star at best), air-conditioning went on and off from movement sensors in the room and sensors on the doors - never got cold, elevators had no logic whatsoever
Great location. Away from noisy main roads but still close to everything. Restaurant food wasn't very good and the tablecloths were always dirty.
We liked the Sliema location. It was 10 minute walk to the ferry to Valletta with a steep walk back which we did not mind this at all. The food served in the bar restaurant was excellent and very reasonably priced with excellent service. Very helpful staff. The hotel has an English atmosphere which we found charming. The shop in the hotel had an excellent range of gifts, also reasonably priced. Although this hotel is not on the waterfront, we had views of the water from our balcony. There are a lot of restaurants and pubs near the hotel. Also a very easy walk to St Julians where there are heaps of restaurants. We would definitely stay there again when we return to Malta, which we intend to do, as it is such an interesting place. We found the airconditioning very warm, not only in our room but also in the bar.
la beauty farm
Location near ferries and buses, shops and restaurants; good for exploring and getting around. Short ferry ride to Valetta. Recommend Chop House at Tigne Point, Aroma restaurant (and others) in town. Basic price was ok but all else was too expensive. 25 Euros/day for wifi (lobby system does not work, made and saw several complaints). Recommended not to drink tap water, but bottle in room is 3 Euro (2 Euros for six 2 litre bottles in the shop next door). Breakfast > 11 Euros, walk to the front and pay less for a better selection.
very friendly and helpfull staff good, atmosphere plenty of characture. said large balcony which we paid exra for, which was misleading.
Very polite staff, great room with the most comfortable bed I've ever slept in! Swimming pool was closed (seasonal) and there was some construction noise due to expansion (but this is Malta-wide currently)
very friendly and helpful staff. Very comfortable. Having its own car park was a definite bonus.
very convenient location for buses & ferries to valletta & rest of island. plenty of cafes in walking distance on slema promenade. 2 twin bedroom large for europe. rooftop pool small, unheated & not really inviting. air conditioner a little tempermental
Courteous & efficient staff, great views across Sliema Creek to Valletta from the Sea View rooms. The hotel is situated on a very noisy main road, traffic noise from 6am to midnight, sometimes later - don't try sleeping with the windows open. Non Sea View rooms only look into an internal courtyard, less noise but a bit claustrophobic. Public areas are fine but some rooms could do with a bit of a refresh before they could really be classed as 4 star. Buffet breakfast is fairly basic as well for 4 star.
Car Park was great in an area hard to find parking. Staff very helpful. Buffet Restaurant was excellent. Pleasant room and very peaceful. Would definitely stay again.
Friendly and helpfull personnel It's getting less proper. Bathroom is having black spots, moisty spots, joints are falling of etch. Needs refreshing
good location To be honest, I experienced a shock just ten minutes after my arrival. A huge cockroach welcomed us as soon as we opened the bathroom. We killed it and complained to the reception. They said such things never happen and fortunately it proved to be true. We found no more cockroaches. Neither in our room, nor in other hotel facilities, it must have been a lonely guy:). Rooms were clean and tidy.
Room was OK, access easy, breakfast good Reception staff not so "friendly" - but still professional. Everything like WiFi, TV, room safe were charged as extras... so didn;t get used.
Proximity to seafront. Comfortable (if tired) room. Levels of friendliness very variable, esp. front of house. I feel that a warm welcome and friendly service goes a long way. However, all requests were considered and handled reasonably effectively. Improvement suggestions to duty manager were well received and I was happy with response. Breakfasts - although included in the price - were uninspiring; food quality acceptable.
The accessibility of the local services, beach and being able to use some extra beach faciliities through the Hotel There was no fresh fruit available at breakfast It is now getting to have a tired look as will soon be in need of refurbishment
Sea view from the room Uncomfortable bed
All was good - location, room, staff, food (bkfst only for us), TV, wifi. Just one thing. We checked out at 1200 but were not leaving to airport until 1800, so we wanted to leave baggage there. There is no specific place - just one corner of the lobby area - but zero security. They don't even give baggage tags. So if your bag goes, you can do nothing. Either the hotel should stop accepting bags, or start a system to run this properly. We were lucky because we could take our bags - there was no way I could leave them with no security - but I presume most visitors would have no choice.
good location close to the fairy area and on the bus route to the airport very nice traditional restaurants in the area poor accommodation the room looked like wasn't rehabilitated since years - old furniture the overall conditions are meting the expectations for a maximum 2 stars hotel even thought was quite expensive
The Diplomat was in a very good position on the main sea front promenade and a 15 minute walk into the main town with lots of bars and restaurants on the way. The buffet breakfast was very good with lots of choice. The air-conditioning was not cold enough for us. After being examined by the maintenance, it seemed that there was nothing wrong with it and seemed to be the accepted temperature for the locals. Do not choose a room at the front of the hotel as there is an outside bar which is open till 2.00/3.00am and gets quite noisy and lively. The hotel was clean enough, but needs a sprucing up, a coat of paint, was a bit run down for a 4*.
The view of the sea and the nice coffee area at front of hotel where you could sit in side or outside
The staff was great. It does cater to older clients but that means no problem to get a great sleep. Don't understand the complaint about breakfast. It was the most comprehensive buffet that we saw in 5 weeks of travel in Italy, Sicily and Malta.Hotel a little dated but clean and the price could not be bettered for this location. no
Sea view from the room is excellent. Location is good - near all points of interest, but at night you hear only the sea (if the window is opened), not music from the clubs or cafes, or something like this. Furniture looks shabby. Shower gel smelled like it's rotten. No balcony. Very weak and unstable wi-fi signal in the room.
the veiw, personnel, food and location were excellent We did not like the top bed covers divided in two,it was impossible to get heat and so it felt cold.
The staff, they were very nice and helpful. Food was also lovely in the Jest Restaurant. Not much facilities, like gym or spa. There was a swimming pool however but didn't get a chance to use it
Nice decor, convenient bed, seaview Seemed a little overpriced, not everyone at the reception very attentive
The staff are great and informative. Rooms clean and quiet.
Relaxing and pleasant environment. Well-balanced style, consistent throughout hotel and rooms. No hair dryer in the room
The great view of Spinola Bay was a real drawcard. Its location is so easy for buses and tours and I liked the free wi-fi and loan of a laptop for use in the lobby whenever I asked. My room was very comfortable but had no tea-making facilities. The rooftop pool was great. Would have like to be able to have a cuppa in my room.
Great staff, superb room, excellent restaurant, good location.
Only had a short stay, came in at 1 AM and left at 10:30 AM. Reception personnel friendly, rooms clean. Bed too soft to be confortable, Airconditioning could not cope with the "heatwave" malta was experiencing (38ºC in june)
Everything!!! Lovely hotel, bus opposite, large rooms, great breakfasts! NO
I love the location
Seaside room was spacious with a good view. Air condition worked perfectly. Nice balcony, and the large door did a good job shutting the traffic sound out. Free garage in the building. Old fashion television set and few English channels. (Lots of Italian and German, though).
Good location, nice rooms Staff not very helpful, food average, courtesy bus offered costs more than public transport
Friendliness of staff they were great!!! Absolutely nothing and we have been travelling and staying in hotels for 3 mths and this was the best - the people made it
It was very expenisve to eat and drink in the hotel
The massages Loud whistling noise from closed windows when the wind was blowing outside.
The view from the bedroom, the space in the foyer, the comfort of the hotel. Happy with hotel
excellent room service, friendly staff, terrace, sea view location a bit far away from mainstream cultural, tourist, shopping and night life.
Location, great view , comfortable room Didn`t feel as luxurious as expected for 5 star hotel
Kindness of Hotel staff Presence of many ants in room 634, however in good igienic conditions
Food menu was horrible and they tried to charge me for mini bar items upon check-out. I didn't even know there was a mini bar. .
It was a really relaxing and enjoyable experience. The hotel had every facility possible, with lots of pools, deckchairs, several good quality restaurants,, a gym, shop and hairdresser. The buffet breakfast was magnificent. Our room looked out over the sea and it was quiet. The staff were friendly and obliging. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The beds in the room were very narrow single beds. I would have expected two queen size beds or at least king singles for that price. The bathroom is tired and needs retiling. The toilet leaked and it smelled.
The roof terrace pool was a real plus Our bathroom smelt a little damp
The view and location Our room was on sixth floor in new section of the hotel. To get to breakfast we had to go down in lift, transfer to another lift to reach dining room, which was only a few metres away horizontally.Guests in the other tower had a bridge connection.
Amazing view from a top of the hotel, very nice and clean room, close by to all main attraction of st.Julias bay and Sliema distance to the airport, if you have early flight as I had, without taking taxi is impossible to get there.
Nice location. Near St.Julians. Bus in door
The location was wonderful. Room had a beautiful view. We were extremely happy with our hotel room. After reading so many reviews on line, was totally happy that I picked the Plaza Regency. A gym would have been nice. Otherwise, it was fine.
Very Little This hotel is a 'package holiday' hotel. It would be a 2 star at the most. We chose a superior room with sea view. It was on the 2nd floor overlooking 2 cafes and trees so there was no sea view. We tried to change the room but this was not possible until the next day and then it would only be on the third floor so same problem. The Maltese get up early and the noise starts at about 5 am, so if you want to sleep do not choose this hotel. There is a bus stop outside and the fumes are also quite strong so sitting on the very narrow balcony is not pleasant. The breakfast was not varied. If you like eggs then OK. No fresh fruit, yoghurts or a varied choice of foods. Coffe from a machine which was undrinkable. 'English' breakfast served on a tea plate! Bread was very nice so had to fill up on that. Staff not helpful compared with the Maltese in general. They did their job but did not do it with enthusiasm. Rooms were kept clean but beds uncomfortable. Maintenance not done. Our broken TV was never repaired. Overall this was our first visit to Malta spoilt by the hotel.
Hotel was very good value It has been about for a while and appears to be getting an up lift which is needed It was a bit of a maze and the builders were in so noise started very early
The room was very large and breakfast very rich. The position of the hotel very central. The room was not well clean, hairs and foot prints were all over the floor. Toilet was very dirty...i'm sorry to say that they don't know the word clean. The sliding door for the veranda was broken, I asked twice to fix it but it had never been done. Very cold the staff at the reception.
The sea view and size of our room.
The lift wasn't working properly-Facilities in the room ( iron-bathroom no toiletries).Double glazing in the seaview room as getting very noisy.
The reception staff were very friendly and welcoming and were most helpful at all times. The hotel is in an excellent location, a few minutes walk to the ferry to Valletta and bus connections to some of the more important destinations on the island. No matter what other reviewers might have said, I found the room large, comfortable and clean. The bed linen was clean and fresh towels were laid out each day. There was a TV in the room, contrary to my expectations, and even though the programmes were in Italian, which given Malta's geographic position, was not so surprising. Having read the reviews before booking, I chose this hotel mainly because of the rate, and though there were some shortcomings (e.g. breakfast was very basic and the breakfast room could do with redecoration) I found it to be extraordinary value for money. As a senior citizen, I found it to contain everything I needed.
Great View from balcony , convenient parking just outside the door , 5 min walk to shops and restaurants .
location was very good, only a short walk/bus to the town centre. very noisy, builders banging about early morning, toilet making lots of noise.bed not that comfortable.
Nicely by the sea, large room with sea view. Roome decoration was simple, facililty was basic. The old receptionist was a bit fussy and snobby.
Good location, large room which was kept clean, friendly staff and good value for money. Breakfast was below par for visitors
The view from our balcony The siting of the dining room. The lack of toiletries and towels. The electrics looked decidly dodgy, our electric fan did not work and buttons on the television were missing
The breakfast was really nice, staff excellent and helpful, and for the price it gives just enough. The hotel room itself, was not so comfy, but if you are looking just for a place where you will sleep during the nights, its just fine.
Very comfortable beds, friendly staff Breakfast
large room and helpful staff
Having booked a room with a sea view, we were given a small back room with a frosted window to a service shaft for the first 3 nights.
