I loved the idea of each room being dedicated to an actor, it made each room to be sthg special. The room was very clean, the hotel staff extremely helpful and friendly, superb breakfast, all in all a very pleasant experience, would definitely spend more nights there anytime in the future. It is a bit of a walk away from the Old Town (15 min on foot), on the other hand the bus stop is just outside the hotel entrance.
Staff extremely friendly and helpful. Rooms very comfortable and great bathroom. Good breakfast, free computer usage and free dvd service. Cute movie star theme. I recommend the hotel without reservation.
Lovely hotel with an original theme. Much recommended.
The location... Very quiet... The decor was wonderfully unique. The breakfast was good as well.
Very beautiful room and confortable None
awesome hotel, great variety at breakfast, loved the movie themed rooms, great lounge area for relaxing and free internet and wi-fi, would come back again! NA
Thematic hotel, decoration was very impressive. Rooms quite spacey, clean and comfortable. Toilette material (shampoos etc.) very good. Videotheque (movies) is comparabely poor. No warm food on breakfast. Bit far from the old city (ca. 30 minutes walk).
Clean, modern, stylish, large rooms smoking inside the hotel
Excellent staff, great breakfast, WiFi, great bar, comfortable beds, modern design. The hotel will be better still when smoking is no longer permitted in the eating areas
Nothing in particular - very average modern hotel Should be a 3 star hotel
We absolutely loved our stay!
The location is perfect, just in the center. The noise of the doors. The lift as well as the doors of other rooms do a lot of noise when closing. Is an actual issue for the weekends as everybody has very different schedules and that makes all the nights very difficult (almost impossible) to rest!
Nice romantic interior, very clean, good breakfast Not very friendly at reception, lots of light in the room, not able to shield with curtains...
Fantastic view from balcony, great location, lovely town.
Great relaxing hotel with fantastic views over the bay.
Great staff. After I checked out, I left my passport in the front desk. The guy in the front desk was nice enough to run after me and give me my passport. Also, great price for a beach front hotel.
Great location, friendly staff, very comfortable!
Good spot. Perfect location. Overpriced breakfast. Better to breakfast outside the hotel, cheaper and with more quality. Also a little bit noisy.
Every employee was approachable, helpful and friendly. They gave excellent recommendations on sites and restaurants. Definitely gave the personal touch. I would highly recommend the hotel and would definitely stay again. We were celebrating our 20th wedding anniversary and were fortunate enough to receive an ocean view room; it was romantic and perfect. Hotel rooms are clean, very well maintained; our room looked freshly painted. Location is great; short walk to old town along a scenic sea wall. nothing; it was top notch.
The location and the view were excellent.
Very comfortable modern hotel. Spacious superior room with large kingsize bed. Nespresso machine on corridor with little pastries. Excellent breakfast buffet. Staff spoke english and were very helpful. Nice location on river - pleasant walk to centre.
The staff was helpful and friendly and whipped out a map to direct you immediately.
we were put in a smoking room
The hotel is right next to the bus stop, as I caught bus from Bilbao. The rooms are clean and fairly modern, the bed is huge! Very comfortable. Smoking is allowed in the bar, so the bar and foyer (right next to bar) stank of cigarettes. Not very good very as breakfast is not included, and it was quite pricey at 15 euro per person.
Good quality clean quiet room with a good king size bed, quality bedding and a good sized LCD tv. Smoky bar area at times (which is common in Spain).
The central location
Hotel is situated next to bus station so very easy for connecting with the numerous services to other towns, is clean, spacious rooms and very helpful reception. Also has a decent bar for a late night drink. Breakfast is expensive (go to one of the nearby deli's) and it's a good 20 min walk to the Old Town, so not that central, depending on the purpose of your visit.
The rooms are gorgeous and plenty big for European style hotels. The staff was very helpful and as a bonus they spoke many languages. I requested a king size bed when I first booked and got a room with two beds pushed together with individual sheeting (not conducive for snuggling). My shower door was only a half door so there was an ocean in the bathroom after we were finished. The last night we tried to sleep earlier so we could leave early the next day but it seemed there was a comedy club right above us until around 2 AM.
Friendly staff who spoke English and were helpful Room was too hot and cooling had finished for the season - had to change rooms
The rooms were clean. The furniture in the room was modern and updated. The flat screen T.V. was a plus. The individuals who worked at the reception did not seem friendly.
It is a fantastic hotel! Very charming, cleaning and the whole atmosphere is very good. I would like to coming back on day!
Lovely ambience and kindly staff. Classy atmosphere which was also homely. we enjoyed it.
the staff were extrenely helpful and the hotel is a delight
Very clean & professional
The stay was short but one of the best experience. This is a true upscale Hotel with everything you would expect from it. May be the only one in San Sebastian where you can park your car and walk to the very heart of the city in just 20 minutes. I will come again to Villa Soro, for sure.
The staff was charming and helpful from ideas for dining in the area to sightseeing tips. We found the ambiance and decor equally satisfying.
the staff were always happy to help in any way they could.
Lovely quiet hotel.Excellent staff. Large comfortable bed in large comfortable room. Air conditioning excellent. Convenient location.
Beatiful 1800s Villa restorated for Hotel.Free Parking. Free breakfast served to your room. Minibar softdrinks are complimentary.. Reception is incredibly helpfull. You can see the pictures of the Hotel in San Sebastian section of my blog www.geziyorum.net 20 minutes walk to town. but worth it...
It was a beautiful hotel, quiet location, very good beds & bathroom, friendly staff, absolutely one of the best hotels we stayed in during our trip in Europe.
I stayed at Villa Soro for 4 nights. The main building is elegant with a very warm atmosphere. I had a corner room on the first floor of the newer building which had it owns semi-private outdoor space. Both were nice. The bedroom and bathroom were of good size and quite utilitarian. The newer house has no street noise, though the area is sufficiently quiet that I would be surprised if the original house is affected by traffic noise. The staff is very polite and helpful. I chose to stay at the Villa as I thought I might find interesting people with whom to talk. Breakfast seemed like an obvious time but the bar is actually pretty lively at night. My wish was fulfilled. Members of The Morgan Motor Club were there with their glorious convertibles (British racing green, of course) and there were 2 architects from Stockholm on their way to Bilbao. My bathroom was not adequately cleaned. I suppose this was due to the maid believing that Americans only take showers. However, there were enough clues that I take baths. The tub wasn't cleaned (or not to my standards) and neither q-tips nor hand soap were replaced in a timely matter.. I found there was too much noise transmitted from the room or rooms above which may have been just the luck of the draw in whose overhead. Note that this really is a residential area and you will have a good 30 minute walk to the bus station or even most restaurants.
Great location off La Concha, easy walk to la parte veija and a wonderful view of the water. Staff was helpful in the small instances I needed them, bed was comfy, jacuzzi was very nice, room was great. Would not hesitate to stay here again.
Valet parking was well worth the price. Location was good.
Location was near to the sea front and our room had a sea view from a higher floor. Out of nine hotels booked with you for our trip around Spain this was the only disappointment. Very old and tired and extreemly overpriced in comparison to other hotels.
good value for money.staff very helpful .room comfortable. I would stay at the hotel again . location good.
great location and fantastic view of the bay from our hotel window (we paid for view and really got it!). Handy parking directly below hotel (not cheap but easy).
Good location! Quite overpriced, including the parking (€32 for 1 night!) Some parts look a little tired (elevator etc).
very good location and excellent room plenty of space and view of the sea, also quiet which was a bonus so close to the centre
stayed at junior suits which is not much price diffenent. wonderful view on top floor and amazig room! had great time.
beautiful view over the beach and bay, comfortable and clean, quiet
Good central position Wanted a sea view room
The location was very central. There was no tea/coffee making facilities as was listed, and I was refused these on request unless I paid. The room was slightly small and I had to ring several times to get an iron, more hangers for wardrobe (simple requests). We were charged 15 euro per day for parking although not told of this at check in, breakfast was 15euro each. All of these little things add up and our bill at check out had gone from 500 euro for 4nights to 635 euro.
The efficiency of the cleaning staff, the cleanliness, the location. The wonderful supermarket and deli's nearby... Not having access to tea and coffee making facilities and the price of the breakfast....
The hotel is old, no free internet and far from the old city or the center. U can get a pizza shop behind the hotel with couple of resturents I did not like any thing
staff v helpful & friendly; good breakfasts; use of swimming pool & gym perhaps relatively expensive, but it is San Sebastian
Room was absolutely beautiful, spacious and great facilities. Staff provided great service and were very helpful. The Hotel was a close walk to the beach and a nice, comfortable 30 min walk into the Old Town to visit the restaurants. As an alternative, the public transport was easy to use to and from the hotel to make it into town quicker if desired.
Very nicely appointed room to a high standard, very efficiently run hotel
The room is very nice and comfortable. Parking is very expensive
The buffet breakfast was fabulous. Our room was lovely too. We stayed three nights instead of just two.
I liked the fact that the desk staff could speak English. It made it so much easier. They were also very helpful with my friend who became ill and had to find a doctor.
clean rooms and good service
Excellant location. Friendly staff. Comfortable rooms.
Beautiful site and charming old-style palace feel. Service and reception are rather mediocre, no English or French spoken by receptionist, no English newspaper available.
Relaxing luxurious rooms No restaurant due to refurbishment and significant work going on outside the hotel
The staff. The staff were on the most part fantastic. Absolutely lovely. ANy problems we had were more from slight misunderstandings from language but when the staff all speak three or four languages and I only have one I can hardly complain. The babysitter from an outside agency had a bad cold.
Elegant Hotel. Great Location. Superb rooms and ambiance. Would stay here any time. I would not call this a complaint but for a five star hotel the front desk staff need to be better trained. While extremely polite and helpful the lack of a dedicated conceirge made it difficult to get good information on dinner reservations, accurate directions. Overall. our experience was very positive
Great place, location wonderful. Front desk, bellmen, bartender, awesome nice, helpful people. Very kind and professional! Maid did not replenish kleenex
Lcation and ease of acces. Near the best restaurants and watering holes.
large room, comfortable, quiet, convenient
Beautiful, luxurious and charming hotel. The rooms were very spacious and facilities excellent. The location was perfect for city and beach. Minibar beer 5 EUR. Buy a beer at hotel bar 5 EUR. Order the same beer through room service it is 7 EUR + 4 EUR Room service charge. Why the beer is marked-up 2 eur plus a room service charge is beyond me.
The location is beautifull in the centre at the riverside and near to the beach. The room was spacious. Because of the price of the hotel and exposure on booking.com we expected the hotel to have an indoor swimmingpool, however it was a spa whitout pool and the spa was only accesible for people above 17 years old.
clean, friendly, good location booked with credit card on internet, receipt ok and thought that was it all paid for, was leaving very early last day, stopped by mgr, thought i was doing a runner!!! made to pay again on another card , as told must have signature ?? If I had not have turned up for booked nights, I am sure they would have taken cancellation fee on original card,so no difference !!
The location was excellent and room well equipped. The room was very cramped and barely large enough for two.
the proximity to the downtown area, the staff who ran the pension were very accomodating and friendly
We loved this pension. The rooms were absolutely impeccable. The pension is run by an absolutely delightful woman named Theresa who was enthusiastic and helpful in every instance. It should be noted that Theresa speaks only Spanish and Basque and so a bit of Spanish is helpful. I would also note that room 7, while clean and l light as the rest is also very small.
the location was perfect! concha beach is located only 5 minutes walking distance! you can go anywhere by walk. and my room was very quite at night because it was located in the deepest spot. you can have an electric card key to access from the very outside door, it was convieince. this pension is recommandable! the one thing i didn't like was the drain problem in the shower booth.
Teresa, the manager, was extremely helpful. Outstanding service. NO
The location was perfect. San Sebastian is a very walkable city and we had no trouble getting to the beach, the old quarter, the bus depot or even Egia (for live music.) The proprietor was friendly and allowed us to borrow a laptop when we had trouble connecting to the wifi. The hotel is a little noisy, perhaps the first floor more so than others.
We had problems finding our way with a car so we finally parked at a parking garage we thought was nearby and walked to Pension Bikain. Teresa drew a map of the one way streets to show us how to get there but it looked so confusing to us and we were so tired and grumpy at this point, she put on her sunglasses, declared herself a tourist and walked back to the garage with us to ride with us and direct us to the pension's nearby parking. She was very helpful with the sights and a delightful person. The small refrigerator under the nightstand was great to have. The location was wonderful - very close to the beach, etc. Directions given on booking.com
The location was really good. It was very near to the beach and was also a short walk to the old town (parte vieja). It was better staying outside the old town itself as that can get pretty noisy at night (although here it wasn't exactly quiet ... and I live in central London so am used to a fair amount of noise!). The pension was exceptionally clean, and the landlady was just lovely - very friendly and helpful (giving us maps, recommending places to go, etc., etc.). Our room was a little bit pokey, but it was absolutely fine, very clean and we had everything we needed. The pension only had a few other rooms (so is nice and small). We managed to catch sight of the other rooms one day as the cleaner was doing her rounds - they all seem OK and quite a few of them were roomier than ours.
Pension Bikain is in a great location for a city sightseeing trip to San Sebastian. Rooms are not so big but there's no need to spend much time in it really. Teresa is very helpful.
You need a car as it is 10 mins out of city, but there is also a good bus service which we used instead of car. Great coffee/bar in foyer.Balcony overlooking the city was nice. Having a balcony was great, but it would be nice if it had a small table and chairs there.
Very nice hotel, reception staff were nice. Very clean hotel. 25 min walk to San Sebastian, very manageable but bus stop is just around the corner also which is very regular. Would definitely stay here again. Very expensive but accomodation in San Sebastian appears to be so.
Modern hotel with good facilities Air con not very efficient and very noisy. Can't believe that a hotel can run out of butter during breakfast !! Quite away from town centre, but taxis readily available and only 6/7 euros
that was the best hotel i stayed during my spanish trip. comfortable, great room, wi-fi, new design
Reception staff were very polite and helpful despite me not speaking Spanish. My room was cleaned and tidied to a high standard. Overall my stay was a pleasant experience. John Gannon
It's a good hotel, with good quality / price ratio. It is new, free WI-FI, clean, easy. They have bikes for rent (manual & electric). The location it is far from the center and way up the mountain !! (only 6-7 euros by taxi). If you take the bike, you will be climbing the "Tourmalet"
There should be a bench for luggage where the traveller can unpack with ease. As it was--because there was no luggae bench, I had to bend down on the floor. I have a back problem, and bending is not good for people like me no matter how careful you are. You do need a car to get around. Although there are buses, it's difficult to find your way back to the hotel once you get the bus in (as I did). The signs to the hotels are too few and far in between--although they start pretty early in town. For brand new tourists, it is difficult to spot the signs and follow while watching for traffic.
Access to internet free of charge. Breakfast should be self service like in most part os hotels.
Breakfast was not good. The coffe was cold.
The hotel staff was very helpful, they recommended a wonderful restaurant in the old part of town. Our rooms were ready when we arrived and they stored our luggage between the time we checked out and when we left to catch our train. Like most European hotels, there we stairs that couldn't be avoided.
good located small rooms, very loud, some employees don't speak any foreign language
Convienient and cost effective food for breakfast was welcome accomodation. The rooms were in need of fresh and younger decor!! beds are like boards to sleepp on!!
The location is good and the staff were very helpfull
close to beach, clean and receptionists helpful expensive
good location,friendly helpful staff,good breakfast
We enjoyed the intimate nature of the lodging and the delicious croissants and fresh squeezed orange juice! We liked everything about it.
Nothing to remark Nothing to remark
the location was very good, we were allowed to check in early as it was pouring with rain! Car parking was an advantage. Room clean, modern and comfortable.
Speedy check-in and check-out of hotel Would like coffee making facilities in room.
Comfortable bed and clean rooms.Free internet is a bonus. Also the cafe is surprisngly good.
the room position was perfect looking over the bay.also being able to take our dog to such a good hotel that we did not stay longer
Rooms were not ready at check in time-took us over 2 hours to get into room. Very hard when it you have just flown in from US
As the remarks mentioned, the staff was very helpfull. We had an excellent room for two young children. If you don´t like the beautifull walk to the centre, the 5 minutes bus might disturb. It was the first time we actually had to pay for the childrens bed.
Great location very close to the beach, free internet
Very comfortable, clean and practical. A little far from the old town and harbour.
San Sebastian is a beautiful town, and not too expensive. Beach, Tapas, Beer, al relatively cheap it costs around 2Euro everyday just to get too it, if you rent a car there is a toll, and if you take their cable car, there is a toll.
Fantastic views. Room, breakfast. Dinner over priced for quality.
The location is beautifull with a wonderfull view on the bay of San Sebastian
Views oif Playa de la Concha are gorgeous Room service unavailable out of restaurant hours.
The whole experience was superb and we'll definately go back soon.
A wonderfully romantic, old-world hotel, with the current luxuries of the modern age! The Mercure Monte Igueldo is set in what must be one of the most beautiful locations in the World. The views from the Hotel are truly breathtaking and the price just can't be beat!
The view from the balcony over the Playa de la Concha was really beautiful and the hotel was great value for money. The staff were very helpful and the room was definitely 4* standard. Overall a very nice break! As the hotel is up on the cliff overlooking the bay, you can expect to pay 10 euros each way to take a taxi to the old town. Even though we had a hire car we were advised by the hotel staff that parking in San Sebastian is quite difficult so we ended up spending quite a lot on taxis.
Not called the Mercure San Sebastian. Change your website
nice reception staff too far from the beach
Very comfortable and although not in the centre of town the public transport was very efficient and easy to use. They also had bicycles for hire.
The room itself was very comfortable, big, the hotel was very quiet even though it was on a main road. Very efficent bus service a the door.
Excellent hotel, friendly staff.
Beautiful, peaceful hotel. Out of the centre, but only 6Euros in a taxi. Would definately recomend it and use it again
nothing special just a good hotel and easy acces to the city by bus none
not a lot. Although we booked and asked for a double room,we got a twin and had to change rooms after a night(staying 2 nights). Location is poor. city centre only reachable by bus or taxi. too far to walk. Parking costed 10 euro per day but the hotel should inform its guests before parking the parking the car, not after their stay! Breakfast is basic, although breakfast staff was nice.Rooms are dated and not worth 4 starts at all! price is definitely too high for services offered, NH hotel is situated better and looks a bit better.Go there instead I'd say,,,
We used the hotel as a stopover on our way to Portugal. The hotel is very easy to find and has a secured parking. Several restaurants etc. are within walking distance of the hotel. We had a room which could be joined together with the room next to it. This made our room somewhat less comfortable because our neighbours came back in the middle of the night and they were rather noisy.
The room was quite big, hotel personnel was rather nice and polite, room was cleaned everyday, bus stop right behind the hotel Location is horrible, far from the beach and the city centre. It might be 1.2 km to the beach by straight line, but the road makes turns, so it takes at least 30 minutes of fast walking to reach the sea. In spite of being far from the centre the place is very noisy. The hotel occupies just one staircase in the building, thus there are not much facilities. No restaurant in the hotel just a bar which closes at 11 pm and since it is not a city centre it is hard to find a place to eat with english-speaking staff nearby. There is a strong smell of the cleaning agent in the rooms and corridors. To summarize the price is too high for what you actully get.
Very comfortable beds, modern design. The room was quite big with a balcony and good equipped. Very small parking - private hotel parking costs EUR 12/night. Hotel located next to a noisy street. WIFI extremely slow. Floor panels make it quite noisy. Poor breakfast. Almost no restaurants in the neighborhood (none with english speaking personnel).
Perfect location between the old town and the shopping area, and right beside the cafe and bar area of the avenue Alameda. Very friendly and helpful staff. Unfortunately, Donostia/San Sebastian generally seems to be very much more expensive than anywhere else in northern Spain, which is why it gets low marks for value for money.
Excellent location, hospitable owners- very friendly. Clean and comfortable.
This was one of the nicest places I have ever stayed. Sure, it's a Pension, so all you expect is basically a bed, toilet and shower, but the whole ambience and location are tremendous. Teresa, the manager, is a lovely, kind lady who obviously really wants you to feel welcome. I would give it 11 out of 10 if I could!
Excellent and friendly staff/owners (helped by my own level of Spanish, but manager spoke English OK). Location was sort of accessed from the pedestrian walkway to the old town and close to the beach and shops. Room was adequate, bathroom OK with good water temperature and pressure and area generally quiet, albeit with potential for noise from other guests in the morning. Close to restaurants and lots of places within a minute for breakfast. If you have a car, even Sat Nav/GPS gets confused by the one-way road system of the city and the hotel took some finding - eventually I chose to traverse the pedestrian mall, the wrong way, just to get to the door. The manager did explain the best way to get to the best car park nearby without paying too high a rate and how to navigate the one-way system. It's really preferable to park the car in the nearby underground car park and walk to the hotel/pension.
The shower was clean. There was no isolation and we could hear all the noises.
clean rooms. convenient location. municipal parking lot across the street. all close difficult to find a hotel. No information about the location
Great location for seeing San Sebastian. It was situated in the middle of the old town and within walking distance of everywhere. My room was quite clean and Teresa our host was perfect. She helped me for everything. I stayed there for 6 nights as an alone woman. Pension was quite safe and I felt like I am Teresa's friend staying at her home.
I liked where was located, very close to the old city and right on the bus lines. Most of all I like the owners they were very pleasant and accommodating. The rooms were somewhat small but still comfortable. There was no food or coffee served, but these things were available right outside the pension.
I liked the family context and the owners kindness. I liked also the hotel is close to everything in the city; beach, shopping, center... Maybe the relation between price and quality.
The location of the hotel is great, you can walk to the town beach in less than 5 minutes, the rooms are a good size, beds comfy and the couple who run the place are lovely, very helpful
