Fine Edwardian interior, warm and confortable. Good breakfast; Splendid position - a few paces from the hotel gives superb views over South Bay. Can't think of anything!
staff were friendly and willing to help without prompts. the hotel is set closely to the sea-front and town center. the only downfall was the parking facilities - having to unload then drive to park and vice versa the next day. The only downfall was the parking facilities - having to unload then drive to park and vice versa the next day. the 'set price' for evening meal was costly too!
the food was good room was ok only the noise of the kitchen in room 230 was not good when we stay agen not in room 230 if posable
just thought it was a friendly place would defo stop there again only problem was there was one cup in the room and it was a doubble room
Good location No car park, cold drafty room, old fashioned & tired decor, a bit too close to a Shearings hotel/holiday. The breakfast was a typical overcooked buffet, little fresh fruit or yoghurt not worth £15 each!
general comfort and service. also the convenient location n/a
The breakfast was very enjoyable. The staff on reception were rather abrupt and unapproachable also we booked a "superior double room" but were given twin bedded.
I and my wife loved the swimming pool and the breakfast I was not happy that most of the kitchens where not on due to upgrading so we could not order a bar meal and I did not like paying nearly £15 for 2 sandwiches instead and the car parking was a problem as it cost me £12.90 a day tp park the car
room excellent--- food excellent not very good at replacing teas, milk etc in rooms car parking a night mare ( and we live in London.)
I liked the room which was comfortable and well furnished I have to use a walking aid and the number of steps made it very difficult. Absence of hand rails made it dangerous for me. I had to have a lot of help moving around.
Meals were good
juccuzzi bath the rooms we got looked like something from 1930s
Though the room was a bit small for a Premium, the Jaccuzzi bath made up for that! I know its a hard job but, the staff could look a little bit more friendly and a tip bowl in the dining room, put Us off a bit!
good room and entertainment
I thought it stood up to its name Grand and the staff were very polite, friendly and helpful. I enjoyed every minute of my stay may it been a short one , look forward to having a longer stay.
We booked the premium room and had 1 of the 4 towers to ourselves...amazing. -lots of building work being done...over 60s only really.
It was an ideal location Customer service at both check in and in the restaurant was poor, staff appeared miserable and failed to make you feel welcome. In the restaurant tables looked unclean with streaky marks on them, plates were being cleared of left overs into black bin bags at tables and it was all quite off putting. Quality of Service was very dissapointing at this hotel.
Location of hotel. Hotel staff ar'ent really helpful at all. if you ask the restaurant staff any questions they were rude and did not seem to want to help at all. lifts in hotel also dont work.
I liked sitting in on the Line Dancing. I liked the view of the sea and the luxurious lobby. I also was taken by the friendly atmosphere and the staff were extremely helpful. The food was first class both the dinner and the breakfastand the resturant was awesome. I have been to many hotels in London and The Grand would top them all.
The historic building is very impressive from the outside and equally so inside the foyer with the huge staircase taking centre stage. The hotel had it's Christmas decorations up which looked beautiful. We stayed in room 640 which was within one on the towers, it has two windows with beautiful views of the beach and the town and is of a good size. The food was buffet style serve yourself with plenty of choice, soup. salad bar, hot buffet for main and various cakes, ice cream, mince pies plus cheese and crackers. The breakfast was great with fruit, toast, cereal and of course a full English available, this again was self service so worked really well for us. The general ambience of the hotel was very warm and welcoming.
Excellent location, decent rooms, vastly improved from ten years previous when I tried it. Reasonable entertainment, great happy hour. The fact I was charged twice for my room. Once by the booking agent Kayak/Hotels.com, and then again at the reception even though I said it had already been paid.
The location of the hotel was great, it was in walking distance of the town and the castle.
The view from the windows was fantastic, a bay window with an incredible view of the bay and castle The hotel is obviously victorian with modern additions. This made some areas a bit cramped, for instance entrance and exit of the lift on the third floor (don't know about the other floors. however on balance this was a very minor inconvenience.
We only stayed for b/fasts which I thought was nice and the help yourself side was prity good The placement of the lift was very poor
the room was very comfortable with a fantastic view of the sea
Wonderful Seaside view. The location was superb. A little cold in the room during the day.
Cheap room, friendly staff. Nice location Room was small at the back of the hotel with a view of car park. Also hotel very expensive, breakfast £15. car parking £6 to give you few examples. Had cleaners banging on the door at 09.50 in the morning even though you don't have to be out of room till 11.00!!
had the feel of a family run hotel smell of stale smoke in communal areas
The rooms have seen better days and are a little tatty
The staff were very good It was very 'tired' and long overdue a face lift
The bar serves a nice pint of Theakstons. Very small en suite bathroom, very old tv with only the basic four channels.
The big bathroom Lack of car parking would discurrage me from visiting again
The restaurant area and front entrance were impressive. Back entrance area is seedy, dark and the inner lobby and stairs were in need of redecoration.Noisy water pipes and floorboards, lift not working, poor menu for vegetarians. Early check-out time 11am not 12 noon.
Staff are polite and very helpfull. We wanted to eat out and they gave us a list of places and a map to follow so we could find uor way back easily. We locked our key inside and they gave us another one without saying a word. They filled our tea tray and made our bed every day.
Location Staff were continually under pressure due to lack of experience and under-staffing. Minor complaints could not be addressed quickly.
The staff were very pleasent, the Spa was wonderful and I for one liked the creaky floorboards, they added character and charm.
I liked the cleanliness ,warmth and quality of this good hotel.Reception staff were nice, dining room staff were friendly and efficient. I didn't like the "no access "to the rooms until exactly 3pm on the day of arrival although the lounge area was pleasant with good quality tea and coffee while you waited.. Or the 11a.M. checkout.Breakfast was adequate.A Buffet with more choice would have been a better option ,instead it was brought to you and although hot it had been made a while..
evening dinner and the hotel location, and the parking arrangements Very poor breakfast self service counter, the worst we have experienced, staff failed to fulfil requests, ie. morning paper, teapot of tea a breakfast, fail to correct the bill, and failed to notice a family/guests who have their child use a potty whilst we were dining close by.The hotel have been informed.
The rooms were brilliant. The decor was really nice, modern and stylish. All the staff were really friendly and made you feel at home. the best thing was the quality of the rooms and the television in the bathroom. nothing at all. we had a brilliant and lovely time.
The friendliness and excellent sea view
The food in particular. Excellent value for money.
everything, the room was lovely, the hotel itself was lovely, great location, great view, great price.
Very comfortable, clean and warm. Excellent location and friendly.
the staff were professional room was very clean breakfast was very good all in all a very pleasent stay none
breakfast was very good and nice to have a quiet pool and sauna shower had very low water pressure so annoying to use
enjoyed the pool+entertainment
the swimming pool and spa were relaxing also breakfast in bed two single beds pushed together, bathroom to close to the fire alarm and because it took ages for the shower to warm up when it eventualy did the steam set of the fire alarm off on three occasions also flooded the bathroom due to bad plumbing. Was put in a disabled room which for a young couple was off putting and to top it off one of the bars on the wall fell off when i leant against it so was a hazard for any future disabled guest, i paid for a more expensive room on the website so dread to think what the cheaper rooms are like. To be fair if we had to stay more than two nights i would have changed hotels.
Great location. Well appointed restaurant and bar. Good value.
We have used this hotel many times in the past and been very satisfied. This time the public faciliteis were juste as good and the decor was improved. The staff were as pleasant as on previous occasions. The food was overpriced and poor quality - raw vegetables; meagre portions and not hot enough. Also there was no indication of price on the set menu, which on previous stays has been very good value. We moved rooms three times in one weekend due to poor standard - shower dirty and not working properly; room cold and dirty. However, the housekeeper was very helpful once he found out we had a problem. We are reluctantly putting in a complaint and are disappointed not to be able to recommend the hotel as we have done to many people in the past.
The view from our window was glorious. We had a good view over the bay, even thoughthis was not officially asea view room. We were there during the first snowfall and the view became magical. Our room had just been refurbished and we think that we may have been the first to sleepin the new bed. Breakfast was excellent. The room was a little bland with no pictures on the wall. This was probably because they had not actually finished the room refurbishment though. Ditto the reception was cold with no carpet, but it did look as though a new one was going to be put down soon.
The hotel was clean. The staff was friendly. The food was beautiful. We found the hotel bar very welcoming and comfortable. There wasn't anything we didn't like. In fact we said we would stay again.
I think the hotel was in a good location to see all the sites in scarbourgh, It was very clean and tidy and has had a recent make over in the reception, dining rooms etc, The rooms and beds were really comfortable to stay in and if i returned to scarbrough i would have no hesitation in staying at the palm court hotel.
Very efficient and courteous staff
Good Location, Great Staff, Wonderful Food None
lovely hotel, clean, helpful staff, lovely food, would definitely stay there again
Staff friendly and hard working. Service was good as was the food in the resturant. Good atmosphere in bar area after meals Wooden floors at room area creaked too much
Clean, good facilities, excellent breakfast and choices, good staff
really pleased with the staff, particularly the waiting staff in the dining room (excellent, polite, courteous, efficient) would have liked to have been able to use the pool, and thought the restaurant menu was a little limited in choice
Cosy, comfortable hotel, very relaxing atmosphere. Husband partially disabled and found easy room access for mobility scooter and grab rail on bath was a necessity - thankyou! Yes, on our second evening in the bar, there was no bitter lemon available for my vodka - stock up for next visit!!!
great hotel, excellent staff, great food, will be back next year
The countryside setting and location which offered peace and quiet. The meals were excellent, well presented and well above average. The room was quite small and the heating was too hot which I could not adjust in the room
We liked the "haphazard" collection of old farm buildings which gave the hotel its character. Our room was spacious and comfortable and very quiet.
great views and service no
The hotel exceeded our expectations, the setting was delightful the staff friendly and efficient. The food is to be recommended and the chef complimented.
peaceful and scenic location, very relaxing, would definately return again to recharge batteries! helpful friendly staff. breakfast and dinner menus limited more varied choice should be avaialable, quality only average, better by the 3rd day!
The bedroom and the public areas were luxurious and relaxing. A very nice atmosphere.
Pleasent location, size of room, cleanliness n/a
Clean comfortable and well presented throughout Shortage of willing service staff and function room staff
Location Service left a little to be desired. Food well presented but badly cooked. Apparently this was due to a wedding in the afternoon???Would seek to eat elsewhere if necessary to stay again.
everyone one was very pleasant and helpful and the breakfast was lovely
The choice at breakfast!!!!!
Excellent hotel, very good value and the room was spotless, quiet and a very comfy bed. Staff were always there when needed and very helpful especially since I arrived soaked from a snow storm.
We were made to feel right at home from the moment we arrived. The room was very comfortable with great views over North Bay , The breakfast' s were excellent and very well prepaired,
Very well kept family run Hotel, welcoming, friendly and accessable. Clean and excellent location. Good restaurants within a 10 minute stroll.
Pleasant staff, good location no lifts, poor ensuite facility(very small)
The location of the hotel was perfect ,with a fantastic sea view, close to the sea ,town center and the castle. also the breakfast was excellent with a varied menu, would definitely recommend
The location was perfect, the proprietors were friendly and helpful, and the room was clean and well presented offering very good value for money. The weather was a let down-nothing the hotel could do about that.
all the above
Very good hospitality and excellent views of the bay. My colleagues's TV didn't work.
very good service.very clean no.
Convenient location, comfortable room, good service, good breakfast, very clean and well decorated, parking Outside does not do the hotel justice
the room was cosy, and the owner was very nice
very good guest house
Breakfast and breakfast service was excellent, staff couldn't have been more helpful and cooperative, parking a huge bonus.
staff very nice & helpful food excellent rooms adequate. Not licenced accomdation little to do in the evening.
Very helpful owner. Free parking outside. Nicely decorated and clean. Tasty breakfast. Free wifi. Close to a park and seafront.
Creaking floorboards and noisy seagulls made sleep sometimes a problem
Very large room, only booked a single, room had double bed and bunk beds.
Breakfast was exellent & staff very pleasant indeed. Noisy plumbing system !
The hotel was well located for the center of town. The Saturday night entertainment in the bar was extremely loud in my room. I wanted to sleep. A light in my room wouldn't turn off in the middle of the night and I had to sleep with it on. At five o'clock I was undressed to take a shower when a cleaning girl barged in without knocking to do my room (which was as yet unmade up). The room was extremely hot, even with the window open.
The staff were very friendly and very helpful. The location suited very well for shopping and visiting the SPA Complex. The decoration in our room was very poor and the central heating was broken. An oil filled portable heater was provided but I felt this was not good enough. While the ensuite was clean the corners of the room left a lot to be desired.
friendly staff. food very good.parking excellent.
Friendly atmosphere especially at the dining room area My daughter didn't like the bath shower mixer taps found it uneasy to use
Bed was comfortable and the staff were friendly, this hotel is suitable for people on a budget. The room allocated to us is in serious need of an make over, the 'en- suite' was extremley small and pokey and had enough room for a single shower and toilet only, the wash basin was located in the corner of the bedroom, the very dated tv in the room also had a very poor reception.
we stayed at the sister hotel ; fantastic
The room was clean and tidy and the breakfast was good value for money and served well. The reception staff were also very helpful. There was a fire evacuation at 1am, this was managed well by the night porter, however I cam concerned that when I got to the main door it was locked and we had to wait for the porter to unlock it. There was also no hot water in the sink in our room in the morning.
it was in an ideal location for shops and not to far from beach entertainment was good freindly staff on arrival we were put in aroom with no central heating just an electric heater which for the time of year was not adequate ihad read on one of your reviews it was not working in november so expected it to be fixed by the time we stayed
Friendly staff, clean room, comfy beds, value for money. Not a reflection on the hotel but it was high season and brilliant weather when we visited so parking was pot luck.
The door out Chef wouldnt take food orders after 5pm rooms very out of date breakfasts start far to late in the morning for business guests
Overall a good place to stay Lighting in bathroom could have been brighter. Skirting board painted. A toilet roll holder would have been appreciated
All the staff were great.great food clean, and in a good position. Nothing
the staff were very good . made us very welcome.breakfast was brill.we had a wonderfull relaxing weekend.
Stayed one night, clean and tidy, breakfast very good. The TV is very small, that said I did not go to watch tv, but if had been staying a few nights then i would have struggled to see the TV, small mounted on a wall above bunk beds.
We had a very enjoyable stay. the staff were friendly, great breakfasts and everywhere very clean. Great location
All fine and comfortable Parking on street could be a problem at peak times.
Polite, friendly staff. Beautiful room, clean, comfortable. Lovely breakfast.
we enjoyed our stay at the greno, from the moment we arrived we were made very welcome and nothing was too much trouble for the hosts. Excellent place to stay booked again already.
Great host. Good breakfast. Excellent location and views of the castle and the North Bay. The room we stayed in was pretty tired and the shower room was tiny for a family. It has great potential here due to the friendly host and great location but needs some investment in the fabric and finish of the building.
Staff were very friendly, nice bathroom and good breakfast. Great location. Windows were drafty and very noisy. Unfortunate that we stayed on a very windy weekend, would probably be fine otherwise.
Excellent breakfast. Parking space. Close to facilities within Scarborough. We stayed in the 'four poster' room. Unfortunately the bed was very 'saggy' - so uncomfortable. I kept rolling into the middle! The first night I was cold in bed, so we asked for an extra blanket.
Comfortable, but small room, great breakfast and friendly staff.
too difficult to open front door. breakfast 8.30-9.30
The Ashburton Full House breakfast was excellent. Wash basin in bedroom leaked so had to use small hand basin in shower room.
the breakfast was excellent, the room was very comfortable and the owners were extremely helpful
ideal base for visiting the area
The breakfast was excellent with a good number of choices. The bedroom was a bit on the small side but furnished nicely The bathroom was to a high standard but the heating in there did not work and it was really cold, we dreaded using it
friendly atmosphere, lovely breakfast, and importantly parking off road
The incredible breakfasts and the cleanliness of our room and the hotel itself. Also it's proximity to the beach and town centre.
The breakfast was very good quality and service good also. Room was always warm. The matress on the bed dipped in the middle which made it a little uncomfortable to sleep on
The staff were very helpful. The food was good. Needed a lot of money spending on it.
swiming pool, brekfast they dont have internet facilities in the rooms
Albeit that the Hotel is somewhat dated,(Needs showers instead of baths or at least a shower over bath), it is a lovely building and great value for money. The staff were very nice and the breakfast was outstanding. The addition of the small pool was fantastic for the younger kids. My family and I had a great time and we will definately return! Small things like the snooker and pool tables having minor surface faults but generally I have no complaints.
A Very friendly hotel, with helpful staff and good food, The rooms were Spacious, clean and comfortable
We enjoyed all the facilities, but particularly liked the fact that the hotel had a swimming pool
The facilities, breakfast etc Needs a drastic refurbishment urgently!! Hotel is quite run down, Also group of lads stayed above our room and kept my wife and daughter awake most of the night along with myself, they were shouting and jumping about and we honestly thought they were going to come through the ceiling at one stage, went down to reception to complain and it was all locked up and nobody to be seen, very poor !!
It was very basic but clean and comfortable and value for money for a family. The decor in the rooms could do with updating plus there was no shower in our room.
Great for the family, breakfasts were great, pool was great, very clean, great building....was happy for baby to crawl around anywhere.... sometimes not enough saff to cover bar and all other facilities....has a noisy neighbour one of the nights but otherwise was quiet
The overall experience was good, the staff friendly the room very good and very clean The only fault I could find was the lack of a shower in the room.
that it was child and pet friendly
Plastic undersheet on the bed
very friendly staff, comfortable room. good breakfast. parking on site. nothing to complain about. would stay at this b&b again.
Very friendly and helpful owner. She gave us good advice to what to do and see in the area.
The hosts are kind and friendly. Room is clean with tea coffee In The room. Price is high for a small Town. Should have spontaneous special offer for longer stay (like for us 5 consecutive nights)
Food was excellent, and the hosts were very welcoming and friendly Decoration of bedroom and bathroom, their was damp patches on ceiling and toilet would not flush and general presentation of room
the couple who owned hotel were really pleasant. breakfast was great and it is in a good spot close to park but walking distance to town.
Clean room, friendly reception Small bedroom
Friendly comfortable and convenient location. Car park a real advantage.
Room was very warm (During cold spell) Toilet seat hindge broken, 3rd Bed light not working, chipped/dirty cup. Just two sets of towels between 3 of us. Lack of basic Scarboro information ie Bus/Trains/Resturants etc.
Good value-for-money stay at hotel with friendly staff. Big tasty breakfast was ideal foundation for a cliff-walk to Whitby.
Hospitality excellent, breakfasts very good and close to open air theatre Decor a bit dated but very clean despite that
Comfortable plenty of hot water both bath and shower very covenient for the cricket friendly welcome . Room rather small .parking may be a problem but we were lucky
Friendly staff, made us feel welcome whilst we were there, good location. Rooks were good value, as was the prices in the bar. Breakfast Very Good
Friendly staff, cold room, the most uncomfortable bed I have ever slept in, don't use booking.com to book into this hotel Cold room Horrible mattress
Friendly, helpful staff - and the breakfast
A homey inn well-located for visiting Scarborough's north bay attractions. Owners Chris & Michelle could not be lovelier and were excellent help recommending local activities, restaurants and pubs. My single room was quiet, cozy & clean and the breakfast fry-up can't be beat. Highly recommended
Very nice location. well accessible to sea front and cinema. all good very enjoyable stay. Only had 3 chanels on tv. no freeveiw.
Good value, come and go at any time through the evening/night, Tea/coffee facilities
The room was cosy, clean and nicely decorated. There was nothing to dislike.
